These last few weeks I’ve been working on a hip hop music video with RA Scion, MC of Common Market. Production went quickly this weekend (Friday evening and a few hours on Saturday) and I’m taking a brief break from editing the footage to write this.
Here are some screen grabs of the film noir look, the crazy set, and the excellent performances:
Oh, and the best part? Breakdancing!

My obsession with time-lapse film continues.
This morning, thousands of cyclists from around the United States came to ride the 33 mile loop around Bainbridge Island known as the Chilly Hilly. I got a few hours of filming in before church, then grabbed Dylan after church for a few more hours of filming while Jill rested.
My favorite shot is featured in the video thumbnail: hundreds of cyclists on Baker Hill Road at once, weaving past each other in accelerated time. The scale of the cyclists is insect-like when viewing all of Baker Hill at once.
Music by Chopin and Prokofiev. Photography by Garrett Gibbons.

I dug this classic out of the archives and remastered it in glorious Standard Definition!
The short story on this film is that this is what happens when a bunch of my cousins get together with a cheap Sony Handycam and no money or professional equipment: we make magic happen. This 20-minute glory boat was filmed in an afternoon and an evening on Bainbridge Island.
It was first edited when Jill and I started dating in 2005, so suffice to say I was too busy running around and having fun with her to put the final levels of TLC that such a film deserves. Here it is in its intended glory.

We’ve moved into our new apartment and the kitchen is so beautiful that I wanted to film some baking footage last night while Jill made cookies. The result? Drama, cookies, and time-lapse!

We’ve been swamped this last week while moving apartments, but Dylan has had the time of his life. He helps with everything from loading and unloading boxes to assembling furniture. When we began to set his new crib up tonight, he immediately got involved with a rarely-seen level of focus and determination. We got the camera out and this is what I filmed:

I was the Nutcracker Prince in Olympic Performance Group‘s performance of The Nutcracker this year. It was a unique experience for me, being a ballroom dancer (not a ballet dancer), and I learned volumes through the process. And I got paid!
This is a highlights video of some of my dancing, some footage I shot backstage, and some video recorded by Jill during the production.

I set up a wordpress.org blog on garrettgibbons.com, for professional or otherwise artistic work. For now I just have duplicate posts there, selectively imported from this site, but it will be a future place to look for design, video and photo work that I want to show.
Happy Boxing Day!

Here’s a little diddy that Jill and I danced to at the Olympic Performance Group‘s performance of “The Nutcracker,” which I was also in. We don’t have many recordings of us dancing, so I’m glad we got this filmed for our Bainbridge Ballroom website!
